Throughout my life as an athlete, coaches, physical therapists, and chiropractors taught me to train by isolating a joint’s motion or a specific muscle’s action; we were then given exercises designed to challenge that motion with some form of resistance. If this hurt, we worked through it, told to “walk it off” when it hurt. People still do this, they tell themselves, “Maybe it will go away” or “I’ll give it a few days”.

These days, sports medicine, chiropractic and physical therapy are about learning to apply “evidence based approaches”; which means making exercise and treatment recommendations based on proven scientific data which considers an individual’s goals, strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, their injury history and age for best results.
