IFC

IFC is the application of two separate currents of different frequencies to the same area. These two currents interfere with each other so that the individual effects are increased, diminished, or neutralized. This is best used for pain relief, edema control, muscle reeducation, and bone stimulation

NMES

Used to elicit muscular contractions with electrical currents indicated for muscular reeducation, preventing atrophy, decreasing muscle spasm, swelling, and neuromuscular inhibition. While NMES increases muscle strength; it does not appear to be superior to voluntary training.

Ultrasound

An inaudible acoustic vibration of high frequency that produces either thermal or non-thermal physiological effects. Great for soft tissue healing, scar tissue contracture, increase inflammatory response, reduce chronic inflammation, bone healing, assessing a stress fracture, pain reduction, plantar warts, acute/post-acute conditions, pitting edema.

HV Pulsed Current

Works on wound healing, Edema control, muscle re-education/spasm and pain modulation.

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)

Delivers a pulsed electrical current to stimulate depolarized sensory nerves and relieve pain.

Phonophoresis

Ultrasound used to deliver healing agents through tissue by dilating sweat glands and hair follicles, increase cell circulation and kinetic energy via “sonoporation”. Utilized in constant and pulsed modes.  Pulsed form is utilized when decreased inflammatory response is needed from heat production of constant mode.

Cryotherapy

Cold therapy allows rehabilitation to progress quickly because therapeutic exercises can be used earlier and are more effective when they are alternated with cold application. When cold is used during immediate care to limit secondary injury, applications of 30 min. or longer are needed to lower metabolism in the tissues. However, when the goal is to decrease pain to facilitate active exercise, localized numbing can be achieved in 12 to 20 min.
